Maximize Charitable Giving with an IRA Charitable Rollover

If you have an IRA and you’ve reached age 70½ you are required by the IRS to take annual Required Minimum Distributions (RMD). If you don’t need your IRA for income – and you would like to maximize your charitable giving while reducing your tax liability – you can transfer up to $100,000 per year directly from your IRA to an eligible charity without paying income tax on the transaction. If you file a joint tax return, your spouse can also make a charitable contribution of up to $100,000, meaning couples can exclude up to $200,000 from income tax if they donate it to charity.

We’re happy to sit down with you and explain how an IRA Charitable Rollover gift can be used at Community Foundation of the Lowcountry to set up a charitable fund in your name, or to support other causes you care about. Give us a call at 843.681.9100
