Women in Philanthropy

Women in Philanthropy is a dedicated group of local women who are making a difference in the Lowcountry through the power of collective giving. Since our founding in 2003, we have built an endowment of over $1 million and, since 2006, we have awarded $299,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations throughout Beaufort County. In 2016 we awarded grants totaling $83,000 in support of “Providing Safe Shelter for our Citizens: Crisis, Temporary and Permanent.”

Women in America are changing the face of philanthropy. With more money and increased control and influence over how it is spent, more women than ever are making philanthropic investments to help address and solve the problems of our time.

We invite you to join us!

The Women in Philanthropy Fund is an endowed giving circle fund that continues to grow in perpetuity. The Fund is invested prudently, and provides grants to help strengthen families and individuals in the areas of arts and culture, community development, education, the environment, health, and human services.

  • Grantmaking
The grantmaking focus of Women in Philanthropy is strengthening families and individuals in the areas of arts and culture, community development, education, the environment, health, and human services. With this in mind, the advisory committee will establish the criteria for each cycle of funding for grantseeking nonprofit organizations.

In this 11th grant-making year, Women in Philanthropy awarded $83,000 in grants for “Providing Safe Shelter for our Citizens:  Crisis, Temporary and Permanent” to non-profit organizations. Our goal was to fund programs that provide safe haven in times of emergency, offer temporary refuge when needed or assist in eliminating homelessness in Beaufort County.

The 2017 theme is "Strengthening Options for the Elderly". The grant application process for 2017 is closed.
