The Public Art Fund

The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry believes that not only do the arts provide a much needed social escape for many in our communities—they also help drive local economies and enrich educational landscapes.

The Public Art Fund, a fund of Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, was established in 2006 to buy and place art in public spaces. The first piece procured was Charles E. Fraser, located in Compass Rose Park. In 2011 the Public Art Fund presented its first Public Art Exhibition on Hilton Head Island and has done so biennial ever since, except for the 2017 exhibition, which was postponed until 2018 due to the destruction caused by Hurricane Matthew.

To date, the Fund has acquired and installed nine sculptures. Some have been Purchase Prize winners from the exhibition; some have been sculptures donated by artists participating in the exhibition; some have been purchased or donated by individuals and groups on Hilton Head Island.
