About the 2018 Public Art Exhibition

This year’s exhibition is sure to be the best yet.

Why? Because we’ve had an extra year to work on it! If you’ve been counting, you’ll know we’ve had an exhibition every other year since 2011.

So what happened to 2017’s exhibition? Hurricane Matthew put a damper on it. Even though Matthew made landfall here in October 2016, Coastal Discovery Museum – our venue – was still serving as a debris site months later. Compounding the concern that the grounds would not be revitalized in time for the October 2017 exhibition, many of our exhibition supporters were struggling with the financial burden of property repairs. The Public Art Advisory Committee made the difficult decision to postpone the exhibition for a year.

But we’re back! And this year, as in the past, you’ll find 20 breathtaking, unique and attention-grabbing sculptures. Nineteen of these will be placed “around the horn” on the nearly-mile long pathway that traverses Coastal Discovery Museum. But one piece has the distinct honor of being installed inside, at the Hilton Head Airport. Make sure not to miss it! Click here to view a site map of this year's exhibition.

How to Support the Public Art Fund

Most, if not all, of the pieces in this year’s exhibition are available for sale, with a portion of any proceeds used to fund future Public Art Exhibitions. Click here to view a price list. Feel free to learn more by contacting the Community Foundation at 843.681.9100.

This exhibition is made possible through financial support of individuals and organizations who value public art in our community. If this is something that’s important to you, we urge you to donate to the Public Art Fund by clicking here.
