Yuri Tsuzuki - Greenville, SC
Powder coated steel - 9’ x 6’ x 2’

Yuri Tsuzuki spent her childhood living and experiencing two very different parts of the world: Nagoya, Japan and Greenville, SC. This experience compels her to create art that speaks and appreciates many languages, mediums, and cultures. For the last several years, her work has focused on the theme of the butterfly to symbolize many things—transformation, hope, and a reminder of the fragility of our environment or of humanity. Alight comprises hundreds of steel butterflies welded onto a curved post. Burnished and torched to a shine, Alight can also reflect light and shadow. Steel butterflies, fragile yet beautiful and strong, are a little like each of us.
