New Fund Established to Aid in Disaster Relief Efforts

September 15, 2017

Beaufort Mayor Billy Keyserling and Mayor Pro Tem Mike McFee, in cooperation with former Beaufort Mayor David Taub (originally from Houston), and on behalf of the community, have established a fund at Community Foundation of the Lowcountry after witnessing the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.

The fund, named the BEAUFORT-SC Coastal Relief Fund, will provide aid and assistance for relief, rescue and recovery efforts focused on helping cities and communities impacted by catastrophic and life-changing events. Support for communities and cities impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma will be the initial effort to receive assistance.

McFee said the fund was established to show support for stricken areas and to express gratitude for the response this area received following Hurricane Matthew. "Having just 11 months earlier experienced Hurricane Matthew here in the Lowcountry, we felt it was so very important to respond to the needs in these communities, just as so many communities and organizations responded to us following Matthew, ” McFee said.
