How The Krum Scholarship Began
In 2003, Marge Krum established the James. L. Krum Memorial Scholarship. When Marge passed away, the newly-named Jim and Margaret Krum Foundation was established under the umbrella of the Community Foundation with proceeds from the Krum family’s private foundation as a means of sustaining scholarships for area students and fulfilling the legacy of giving that was so important to Marge and Jim Krum.
One of the Most Unique Scholarships Around
The Jim and Marge Krum Scholarship is the largest scholarship in the area, and one of the most unique: It can award up to $10,000 each year throughout a student’s undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees. To date, the Krum Scholarship has awarded over $2 million to 95 students.
High school seniors on Hilton Head Island and in Bluffton who meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:
- 3.25 GPA or higher
- Strong leadership skills
- A demonstrated spirit to serve their community
- An interest in joining a community of Krum Scholars that will form a network to encourage and guide future recipients of the award
