Nonprofit Excellence in Management & Operations (NEMO) Program
Community Foundation of the Lowcountry and HIGOL have partnered to support nonprofit organizations in the Lowcountry. The Nonprofit Excellence in Management & Operations (NEMO) program will be part of the Ekedahl Center for Nonprofit Excellence’s offerings. NEMO aims to strengthen nonprofit capacities to enhance community impact and revenue through essential training and consulting.
The year-long program includes 6 bi-monthly workshops plus one-one sessions with a consultant. Fifteen leaders from local nonprofits have registered for this Fall’s program.
Program Goals:
- Support Executive Directors and CEOs in strengthening the capacity of their organizations to increase both community impact and revenue.
- Through a curriculum of six experiential courses, equip executive leaders with the skills, support, and connections needed to positively impact critical community issues and thrive in the Lowcountry.
- Encourage strategic thinking and organizational growth.
- Provide a structured curriculum and executive coaching and consulting to help leaders move out of the continuous cycle of putting out fires to stabilize and grow their organizations.
- Create a networked group of nonprofits across the region who support one another, share knowledge and resources.

Lowcountry Executive Director Coaching Program
The Lowcountry Executive Director Coaching Program is a peer-based learning program that includes group learning meetings and individual coaching sessions for six Lowcountry executive directors. This program is conducted by Neil Sklarew, an experienced executive coach and past manager of the Georgia Center for Nonprofit’s consulting group.
The program includes alternating monthly group and individual meetings with Neil for twelve months. Group meetings are five hours and individual coaching sessions are 60-90 minutes long. Group sessions will be determined once classroom participants have been identified. Individual sessions will be personally scheduled.
The focus of this coaching experience is to address the executive director’s “use of self” in effectively working with his/her primary constituents (board, staff, volunteers, clients, etc.) While provides tools and skills development on nonprofit topics such as board development, staff development and strategic planning, the primary goal is to develop the executive director’s self-knowledge and skill to effectively work with others around issues of communicating, decision making, managing conflict, managing stress and influencing others.
