Overview

The Sandra G. and Darius M. Smith Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memories of a mother and son who passed away less than two months apart in 2019. Sandra, a graduate of Miami Killian Senior High School and Florida State University, was employed with American Airlines prior to becoming self-employed as a realtor. She was a licensed Evangelist Missionary with the Church of God in Christ. Her mission work led to service in Haiti and Columbia in South America. Darius, an honor graduate of North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, was a National Merit Scholar. He completed his Bachelor Degree at Howard University in Washington, D.C. and furthered his studies at New York University’s Graduate School of Musical Theater Writing. It was there that he obtained his Master of Fine Arts Degree. He taught at Howard University and later became self-employed as composer/lyricist, musical director, vocal arranger and performer.

Limited Criteria

  • High school senior graduating from Estill High School, Patrick Henry Academy or Wade Hampton High School.
  • Minimum GPA 2.25.
  • Plan to attend a four-year private (non-state) college or university (Competitive Scholarship)
