Beaufort County faces a nursing shortage, putting the health and wellbeing of our Lowcountry communities at risk. Estimates show South Carolina has the lowest nurse-to-population ratio of any other state, with only 7.9 nurses per 1,000 population.

The mission of the South Carolina Nurse Retention Scholarship is to retain top nursing talent in Beaufort County. The scholarship is different from traditional scholarships in that it is a “reverse scholarship” that pays students after they complete their nursing degree, but only if they choose to remain and practice nursing in Beaufort County in primary healthcare. In essence, the South Carolina Nurse Retention Scholarship is a talent retention program.

Who is eligible?
