Together for Beaufort: Our County, Our Future

August 24, 2010

A project born at the Board table of the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry some years ago was the “community indicators project” which eventually became known as “Together for Beaufort.” It reflects those issues that a number of participants in focus groups across the county felt were critical needs which should be addressed.

An interim report has just been released, and Fred Leyda, the Facilitator for the project, offers these thoughts: In today’s busy world, it sounds simple to say “let’s all work together for the betterment of our community.” But as most of us know, that’s not an easy task to accomplish. The “Together for Beaufort” report provides an framework to ensure those participating in the Alliance for Human Services, (a partnership of over 100 government, private, public and non-profits) and receiving grants from Beaufort County, the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry and the United Way of the Lowcountry, are all “hitching their wagon to the same train” and pulling in the same direction. We’ve all been doing some great work in the community but we could do a lot better if we combine and coordinate our efforts.

Our partnerships need to be broadened to include more businesses, individuals and organizations. Copies of both the original Together for Beaufort report and also of the newly released, interim report can be found on the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry’s Web site. We invite you to take a look and consider ways you too can join with your neighbors in working Together for Beaufort.

A longer, more detailed version of the interim report is scheduled for release, and will again be on the Community Foundation’s Web site, by the end of the summer.
