Community Foundation of the Lowcountry Awards Almost $824,000 in Grants and Scholarships

Community Foundation of the Lowcountry awarded an astounding $823,331 in grants and scholarships in June and July of this year. Of that total, $548,831 went toward student scholarships; the remaining $274,500 was awarded to six local nonprofits in the form of grants.
Since 1994, Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has awarded more than $54 million in grants and scholarships.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Over the past 20 years, hundreds of local students, bound for accredited universities and colleges, have benefited from scholarships received through Community Foundation of the Lowcountry. This spring 138 scholarships were awarded, ranging from $500 to $15,000 each. These scholarships have been established by individuals, couples, organizations and corporations. Traditional and non-traditional students, freshmen, upperclassmen and even graduate students will attend schools across the country this fall with financial support from these Community Foundation scholarships.
GRANTS
Community Foundation of the Lowcountry ’s board of directors recently awarded $274,500 in competitive grant dollars to six nonprofits for a variety of community-improving efforts. The Community Foundation awards competitive grants to local nonprofits three times a year.
Bluffton Self Help: to support the hiring of a development and marketing coordinator.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lowcountry – Hilton Head Island Unit: to help fund the construction of a “Discovery Playground ” for children ages six through 12.
Deep Well Project: to fund a portion of a livable housing and furniture warehouse to receive, store and distribute furniture to those in need.
Hospice Care of the Lowcountry: to contribute to the cost of implementing an electronic medical records initiative.
Programs for Exceptional People: to fund a community liaison coordinator position.
Volunteers in Medicine Hilton Head: to support the expansion of VIM ’s technology and communications infrastructure.
For 20 years, Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has been connecting people, resources and needs by helping build stronger communities and assisting donors in making a difference through charitable giving. With over 300 charitable funds, combined assets totaling $70 million and grantmaking and scholarships reaching $54 million, Community Foundation of the Lowcountry is the largest source of unrestricted philanthropic resources dedicated to Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper Counties.
