1Impact Grants of $211,500 Awarded to Four Organizations

November 23, 2020
Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has awarded more than $211,500 to four local organizations as part of their twice-a-year competitive grants process.

The four grants focus on making an impact in our community and directly support the Community Foundation’s efforts to address social and racial injustice. The grants will combat workforce transportation challenges, provide dental services to the uninsured, promote Gullah heritage and culture, and advance educational support of at-risk children.

The awardees and their supported programs are:

Antioch Education Center was awarded $110,000 to purchase two 25-passenger vans to transport workers from Jasper County to employers in southern Beaufort County. Those served are generally low-income workers who struggle to find affordable, reliable transportation. The van routes will provide convenient times and routes that result in less time on the bus and more time with their families.

Bluffton Jasper Volunteers in Medicine received $35,000 to support their newly added dental program. The money will go toward the purchase of equipment needed to perform dental and oral hygiene services for their uninsured patients.

Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra was granted $16,500 to partner with the Gullah community to create and perform monthly symphony events highlighting the rich culture of Gullah heritage.

Neighborhood Outreach Connection (NOC) received $50,000 for program support, and to outfit and sustain NOC’s new location on the north side of Hilton Head Island. NOC provides education, healthcare and workforce development programs in underserved neighborhoods.
